Meeting the demand for healthy snacks in Retail

Every year, more and more Cocohagen date bars fly off the shelves in stores operated by one of Denmark’s largest retail groups: COOP. Here's the story of why both customers and professionals can’t get enough of Cocohagen.
Consumer demand for healthy snacks on the rise
The demand for nutritious and healthy snacks is growing both in and outside Europe. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious, looking for natural ingredients, and convenience. Cocohagen founder Asbjørn Diemer explains:
"Consumer habits have changed. More and more people are swapping chips and candy for snacks that are clean and packed with nutrients. And that’s exactly what Cocohagen delivers."
The collaboration in numbers
396,000 Cocohagens sold in COOP in 2023
769,000 sold in COOP in 2024
1,215,000 sold in COOP in just the first half of 2025
All eyes on dates
Natural, nutrient-rich foods are booming and one ingredient in particular has taken the Nordics by storm: dried dates. It’s hard to walk into a supermarket or 7/11 without spotting shelves full of date-based temptations. Asbjørn shares:
“While dates have long been part of everyday life in regions like the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, they’re only now becoming a true favourite in the Nordics. Dates are rich in fiber, minerals, and vitamins, making them a bit of a superfood.”
More Cocohagen to come in COOP stores
This growth means more room for product innovation. Soon, COOP customers will be able to pick up Cocohagen gift boxes and even a special holiday collection in stores across the country.
“Cocohagen continues to attract strong consumer interest and demand, which is reflected in a high turnover rate. They have created a healthy product that both tastes great and aligns with current consumer preferences. We are very satisfied with the collaboration.”
