Meeting the demand for healthy snacks in Retail
Every year, more and more Cocohagen date bars fly off the shelves in stores operated by one of Denmark’s largest retail groups: Coop. Here's the story of why both customers and professionals can’t get enough of Cocohagen.

Did you know?
- Cocohagen x Coop actually started as a partnership between Cocohagen and Irma, one of the world’s oldest supermarket chains. The chain stood strong for 137 years and became known for its focus on quality, organic products, and iconic design.
- Guess what? You can still find a co-branded Irma x Cocohagen date bar in stores today.
- Cocohagen is the only brand ever allowed to reinterpret the iconic Irma Girl – in our case, as the Cocohagen bird dressed in her signature yellow wig and shoulder bag.
Consumer demand for healthy snacks on the rise
The demand for nutritious and healthy snacks is growing both in and outside Europe. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious, looking for natural ingredients, and convenience. Cocohagen founder Asbjørn Diemer explains:
"Consumer habits have changed. More and more people are swapping chips and candy for snacks that are clean and packed with nutrients. And that’s exactly what Cocohagen delivers."
A snack that speaks to all the senses
Cocohagen’s popularity isn’t just about health it’s also about taste, texture, and design. Everything about the product is crafted to create a unique and delightful experience. Asbjørn continues:
“We’ve put a lot of thought into the packaging design, the taste, and the texture. We only use high-quality dates, which give our bars their signature softness and moist feel. Many people have tried raw bites that crumble and dry out your mouth – Cocohagen is the opposite of that."
214.000 sold in COOP from january to june 2025
153.000 sold in COOP in 2024
88.000 sold in COOP in 2023

All eyes on dates
Natural, nutrient-rich foods are booming and one ingredient in particular has taken the Nordics by storm: dried dates. It’s hard to walk into a supermarket or 7/11 without spotting shelves full of date-based temptations. Asbjørn shares:
“While dates have long been part of everyday life in regions like the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, they’re only now becoming a true favourite in the Nordics. Dates are rich in fiber, minerals, and vitamins, making them a bit of a superfood."
